This is the story of the 2013 model Riviera 5000 Sports Yacht, Bonichi’s journey from our sales berth in Auckland to her new home in Nelson.
After some difficult challenges preparing for departure during December and January, Bonichi finally departed Westhaven, Auckland at 6.38am on the Friday of Auckland and Nelson’s Anniversary Weekend. After brief stops for fuel at Whitianga, Gisborne and Wellington, and few hours’ sleep for the crew in the shelter of Cape Kidnappers, she arrived at Tennyson Inlet in the Marlborough Sounds at 7.00pm on Saturday night.
Having a day spare due to excellent weather conditions, the delivery crew were entertained by Bonichi’s new Nelson based owner to a trip through French Pass and across Taman Bay for a view of Abel Tasman National Park before heading for her new home berth in Nelson Marina Sunday afternoon.
Conditions throughout the trip ranged from a 2 meter following sea off East Cape, to flat calm conditions across Cook Strait which was conquered in 20 minutes.
Bonichi cruised at speeds between 16 and 30 knots as conditions allowed.
Thanks to Craig, Dean, Steve and the team at RMarine Flagship for their patience and persistence at working through the pre–departure challenges.
